The group was founded in 1975 when Don Cornelius and Dick Griffey founded Soul Train Records. They’ve decided to create a R&B vocal quintet called The Soul Train Gang. It consisted of brothers Gerald and Terry Brown, Judy Jones, Patricia Williamson (replaced by Denise Smith in 1976) and Hollis Pippin. Their debut album Don Cornelius Presents the Soul Train Gang was released in 1975. It featured Soul Train ‘75, which was one of the many themes from the show Soul Train. The Soul Train Gang was released as their follow up album in 1976 also happened to be their last one.
